Autumn Green, Ph.D., tackles the history, activism, and research surrounding students with children in higher education. Student parents are not a niche population; they make up 26 percent of the nation’s undergraduate students. Yet, student parents are significantly under-researched, and even with explicit Title IX protections, often under-served. Student parents face unique challenges, including accessing affordable childcare and family-friendly housing. Additionally, a growing number of student parents are low-income, first-generation women of color who use higher education as a tool of upward socioeconomic mobility.

With the help of MSW candidate and intern Sarah Galison, Dr. Green presents results from the first comprehensive research study on student-parent programs in the United States and shares insight on how institutions can best support the growing population of student parents and their children.
