The articulation and integration of women's sexuality is an aspect of development that is strongly influenced by cultural context. This paper examines the lesbian daughter's relationship with her mother and suggests that a mutual empathic rupture is almost inevitable in a cultural context dictated by sexism and heterosexism. Implications for relational development and women's sexuality are addressed.
