For Immediate Release: October 4, 2012
Harriet Lerner, Ph.D., psychologist, author, speaker, and a respected voice in the psychology of women and family relationships, will present “Voice Lessons: Ten Steps to Courage, Clarity, and Connection in Key Relationships,” the fifth annual Jean Baker Miller Memorial Lecture October 19th, 7:00 p.m., at the Wellesley College Club, Wellesley, MA. Lerner, the author of 11 books including the New York Times best seller, The Dance of Anger, which helped rescue men and women from the swamps and quick sands of difficult relationships, hosts blogs for Psychology Today and The Huffington Post. Her most recent book is Marriage Rules: A Manual for the Married and Coupled Up.
During this free, public lecture, Lerner will share wise and innovative "voice lessons" that can help individuals navigate difficult relationships in bold new ways. This lecture is held in conjunction with the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute’s (JBMTI) 2012 Introductory Institute, “How Connections Heal: Founding Concepts and Practical Applications of Relational-Cultural Theory,” a three-day program for practitioners on the intensive study of Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT) and its direct applications in the world.
The JBMTI seeks to improve traditional practice, transform lives, and pursue social justice by developing and extending applications of Relational-Cultural Theory which promotes growth-fostering relationships as a central human necessity. The Stone Center for Developmental Services and Studies at the Wellesley Centers for Women (WCW) was founded in 1981 at Wellesley College, with Jean Baker Miller, M.D. as the founding director, dedicated to the prevention of psychological problems, the enhancement of psychological wellbeing, and understanding comprehensive human development. The JBMTI was established in 1995 to further Miller’s groundbreaking work.
The memorial lecture is free and open to the public. Copies of the speaker’s books will be available for purchase and signing. For more information and to reserve seats, please email jbmti@wellesley.edu.
