Advises on social and emotional learning with an equity lens
Kamilah Drummond-Forrester, M.A., CAGS, collaborates with research and action projects at WCW, including the Youth, Media & Wellbeing Research Lab, to provide expertise on social and emotional learning (SEL) with an equity lens.
Drummond-Forrester is also a facilitator with the National SEED Project, a program of WCW that partners with communities, institutions, and schools to develop leaders who guide their peers in conversational communities to drive personal, institutional, and societal change toward social justice. In this role, Drummond-Forrester has led group discussions around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
She was the director of Open Circle, WCW’s elementary school SEL program, from 2017 to 2021. During that time, she oversaw the program’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and worked to incorporate equity and inclusion into the Open Circle Curriculum. She initially joined WCW as an Open Circle trainer in 2013 and led the organization’s teacher development programming for four years. In that role she delivered training and coaching to teachers, administrators, and support staff about how to incorporate SEL into their schools and classrooms.
Prior to joining Open Circle, Drummond-Forrester was a co-founder and director of wellness at a Boston charter school and director of an award-winning, educationally-based reentry program at Suffolk County House of Correction. Her professional experiences have fueled her passion for SEL, equity, and youth development, affording her unique insight into the importance of SEL in the lives of children and the adults who care for them.
