Time’s cover headline and editor’s note for the issue on The State of the American Woman are misleading and do not reflect the thoughtful featured articles.“More powerful” is an odd way to characterize American women who are still far more likely to be confined to lower end, poorer paying jobs and who remain subject to sexual violence and harassment at alarming rates. And women are far from equally represented in corporate and political leadership posts. The economic crisis has cost more men their jobs, but let’s not confuse that with “true equality.” To label women more powerful may reflect male fears, it is certainly not female reality.
